Liberty Day

5th graders visited the Colorado state capitol on March 16. This day is known as "Liberty Day" and marks President James Madison's birthday. President Madison was known as the "Father of the Constitution" for helping write some of the original drafts of the U.S. Constitution. All 5th graders studied the Constitution, and then had a chance to quiz people (including James Madison himself!!) on the amendments. Students also handed out copies of the Constitution. Selected students read the first 10 amendments and led the Pledge of Allegiance before the opening of the day in the capitol.
