Westview hosts second Celebration of Culture Night
- Collaborate
- Empower
On the evening of May 2, 2024, the Westview Elementary cafeteria was transformed into a multicultural showcase.
Westview Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education teachers, Katie Berg and Cabrini Lovato, held their second annual Celebration of Culture Night. Families were invited to share their culture and make connections with other multilingual families. Everyone generously and proudly shared his or her culture through traditional clothing, food from around the world, and even an authentic Mexican dance.
A few of the many countries represented were Iraq, Egypt, Colombia, Mexico and Vietnam with over 150 people in attendance.
Families built new friendships while sharing delicious food. They also watched an empowering video which described the student's learning experiences in ELD class. Even Westy Wildcat, courtesy of the school's incredible Custodian Robert Buster, made a surprise appearance to the children's delight.
The night honored diversity while also bringing people together. Through this event, we were all reminded of the value that each unique person brings to our wonderful school community.
Special thanks to the Westview Elementary community for submitting this Five Star Story.
