Our Principal

September 18, 2023

Dear Westview Families,

I hope this letter finds you well.  We are halfway through our first quarter and it definitely feels like fall after last week’s nice weather.  Help remind your student to dress for the changing weather.  We will go outside for recess unless there is rain or snow or the temperature with the windchill is below 20 degrees or less.  Fresh air and movement is important and we want to make sure the students are dressed appropriately when they are outside.

Please read through the information below and let the office know if you have any questions.

Friday Folders -  All Westview students should be bringing home a blue folder every Friday.  The folder will have important papers from the classroom and school.  The Friday folder back pocket holds the weekly Scholar update.  You can look at that paper to see if your student earned Friday Fun by being a Scholar for the week.  Looking at this paper with your student is a great way to celebrate Scholarly behaviors and/or to make a goal for the next week.  The blue Friday folders should be returned to the classroom every Monday.

Weekly Specials Schedule - We have three Specials classes at Westview.  They are Art with Ms. Foret, Music with Ms. DeYoung, and PE with Mr. SeChrist.  Students have the same Specials class Monday-Friday.  Families can see the specials schedule on the Westview website under Classrooms, Specials. Please help remind your student to wear their tennis shoes when they are scheduled to have PE.

One Book, One Westview Summer Packets - Thank you to all of the students that turned in their One Book, One Westview Summer Packets.  We held our drawing for Rockies tickets last week and want to say congratulations to Colton W. in second grade for winning the tickets.  We hope that Colton and his family had a great time at the game!

We have added a new page to our Westview Website called Our Principal.  We will be sharing all of the Monday emails that are sent to families in this section.  We want to make sure all of our families have the information they need to support their students and to know what is happening in the Westview community.  Please check the school website and Westview Facebook (Follow Westview Elementary)  for other information and highlights from the school.

Have a great week.   Let us know if you have any questions.

Dear Westview Families,

We have added a new page to our Westview Website called Our Principal.  We will be sharing all of the Monday emails that are sent to families in this section.  We want to make sure all of our families have the information they need to support their students and to know what is happening in the Westview community.  Please check the school website and Westview Facebook (Follow Westview Elementary)  for other information and highlights from the school.

Important Upcoming Dates:
September 14 - PTO Meeting @ 4:15 p.m. in the Westview Library
September 15 - International Dot Day - Wear Polka Dots to celebrate the day
September 22 - Parent Conference Sign-Up Genius Sent out through Talking Points
October 10 and 12 - Parent Teacher Conferences from 3:15 p.m.-7:15 p.m.

One Book, One Westview Summer Packets - Thank you to all of the students that turned in their One Book, One Westview Summer Packet already.  We will hold our drawing for Rockies tickets tomorrow, Tuesday,  morning. You have until 8:00 on Tuesday to turn your packets into the office to be eligible to win a pair of tickets.

International Dot Day - Ms. Foret, our Art teacher, has invited Westview students and teachers to participate in International Dot Day on Friday, September 15 by watching a live stream of Peter H. Reynolds, the author of The Dot.  If you do not want your student to watch the live stream, please call the main office and leave a message for Mrs. Frankenfeld letting her know.

Dot day is a celebration of creativity and art.  A celebration of innovation,  of community - locally and globally - a celebration of great teaching and inspired learning.  Self-discovery and self-expression.  It is a celebration of bravery - of vision - seeing the possible - seeing the solution before it even exists.  Dot day is a celebration of impact- a time to think of how we all can make our mark.  It is a day to use our energy, talents and time to make this world a better place.  A global festival of humans being amazing human beings.  A reminder to think of each day as a NEW day....a blank page....a chance to make it the best day yet.  -Peter H. Reynolds

All staff and students are encouraged to wear Polka Dots this Friday!

Share Cart - Starting tomorrow, we will be having a Share Cart available for students in the cafeteria. Students who participate in the school lunch or breakfast program can place whole fruit and
unopened, packaged items on this cart that they are not able to eat or that they don’t want to take with them. The share cart will be located in the cafeteria and the food items will be available for other
students to take at no cost during lunch or for a snack. This resource helps in two ways: 1) reduces the amount of food thrown away and eventually put in the landfill and 2) provides additional nutrients to other students. Due to allergy and food safety concerns, the share cart can only be used to share items from the school meal program. Foods brought from home cannot be placed on the share cart. Items with opened packages or partially eaten food products are also not allowed on the share cart. If your child has a food allergy, we encourage you to talk to your child about the allergy and whether you would like them to utilize this new resource.   We are excited to provide this opportunity to our school community!

Have a great week.   Let us know if you have any questions.

Dear Westview Families,

I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend.  Staff members are attending trainings today and look forward to having the students back in the building on Wednesday.

September 5 - No School for Students - Staff Workday/Release Day
September 8 - One Book, One Westview Summer Packets Due
September 14 - PTO Meeting @ 4:15 p.m. in the Westview Library

One Book, One Westview Summer Packets - Students are asked to bring in their summer packet from the book - The Hero Two Doors Down.  The packets that are turned in this week will be used in a drawing for 2 Rockies tickets.  Students must have their name on their packet in order for the packet to be eligible for the Rockies ticket drawing.  Packets must be turned in to their classroom teacher and/or the main office by Friday, September 8.

After School Activities - Our Quarter 1 After School Activities start this week.  A Sign Up Genius was sent home last week for families to use to sign up for the after school activities they are interested in.  Staff members have sent home or will be sending home Parent Permission forms with the students that have signed up.  Students will not be able to attend an activity without a signed permission form.  Staff members will be taking attendance at each activity, so please contact the staff member in charge of the activity if your student will not be attending.   All After School activity information can be found on our Westview Website under the Clubs & Activities section.

Water Bottles - All students were asked to bring a water bottle as part of their school supplies this year. Students take their water bottles to PE and other locations throughout the day.  Research shows that staying hydrated helps with our ability to focus and retain information.  Please help your student remember to fill up and bring their water bottle every day.  If you need help in purchasing a water bottle, please contact Ana Martinez, our Family Outreach Liaison.

Dear Westview Families,

It is hard to believe that by Friday we will be starting the month of September.  We have two weeks of the school year already complete and the students are doing great!

I hope to send out Monday emails to families highlighting and sharing important information. The school website and Facebook (Follow Westview Elementary)  will also be other ways that information will be shared.

Important Upcoming Dates:
August 30 - Sign-up for After School Opportunities.  A Sign-Up Genius will be emailed at 1:30
September 1 - Picture Day with Dorian Studios
September 4 - No School - Labor Day
September 5 - No School for Students - Staff Workday/Release Day

Water Bottles - All students were asked to bring a water bottle as part of their school supplies this year.  Students take their water bottles to PE and other locations throughout the day.  Research shows that staying hydrated helps with our ability to focus and retain information.  Please help your student remember to fill up and bring their water bottle every day.  If you need help in purchasing a water bottle, please contact Ana Martinez, our Family Outreach Liaison.

Westview After School Opportunities - A packet was sent home in Friday folders listing all of the After School activities that will be offered for students this year.  Activities will be held after school from 2:35-3:35 p.m. unless stated otherwise.  Activities will be held during specific quarters (1, 2, 3, 4) and are available for identified grade levels.  Each activity has a set number of students that can participate.  Participants will be chosen based on the order of students signing up through the Sign-Up Genius link.  The link will be pushed out to families through email on Wednesday, August 30 at 1:30 p.m..  Please check to make sure that your most current email is listed in Infinite Campus so you receive the Sign-Up Genius link on Wednesday.

Snacks - Students have the opportunity to have a snack during specific times during their school day.  These snacks help them concentrate and focus.  Please help your child remember to bring snacks.  Check in with your student’s teacher to see what type of snacks they are needing - individual, bulk, healthy, peanut free, etc.

Safety Drills - We will be conducting an Evacute (Fire) drill every month.  The drills are on the Master Calendar and students will be notified prior to the drill starting.  We will also be practicing the Hold, Secure, Lockdown and Shelter Drills each semester.  Our goal is to practice and be prepared for any situation that could occur while the students are in the building.

School Security System - In our ongoing efforts to provide the safest and most secure environment for our students, an additional security measure has been installed, which requires the following safety measures.

  • ALL exterior doors will be locked at all times.
  • Please do not open the door or hold the door open for others.
  • In order to enter the building, you will need to enter the building through the front doors and speak with an office staff member through the vestibule window.
  • Once entering the building, ALL visitors must check in at the office, show ID, and obtain a visitor pass.  An office member will then release the doors, allowing access to the building.
  • If you would like to wait with your child before school or wait for your child after school, you will need to wait outside.

Visitor/Parent Check-In -  District Policy requires that all parents and visitors must present a drivers license/I.D. at the front desk and sign in at the office upon entering the building. Your license will be scanned through our Raptor system and a visitor’s badge/sticker will be provided. You will be asked to wear a visitor’s badge/sticker at all times. If you would like to spend time with a teacher, please call and make arrangements prior to visiting. Also, if anyone other than a parent or legal guardian will be visiting the school (such as a grandparent coming for lunch) you must call the office ahead of time to let us know

Have a great week.   Let us know if you have any questions.

Dear Westview Families,

We made it through our first week of school and I was so impressed with how well all of the students did returning to our daily school routines and showing Scholarly behavior.  I know it will take a few weeks for everyone to build their “school” stamina, but last week was a great start to the school year.

I hope to send out Monday emails to families highlighting and sharing important information. The school website and Facebook (Follow Westview Elementary)  will also be other ways that information will be shared.

Important Upcoming Dates:
August 24 - PTO Step It Up Fundraiser Kick-Off Assemblies
September 1 - Picture Day with Dorian Studies
September 4 - No School - Labor Day
September 5 - No School for Students - Staff Workday/Release Day

Title 1 Right to Know - As a parent of a student at Westview you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teacher who instructs your child. This is a requirement for all districts that receive Title I funds. Federal law allows you to request certain information about your student’s classroom teacher. The law also requires the district to give you this information in a timely manner upon request. Listed below is the information in which you have the right to ask for information regarding each of your student’s classroom teachers.

  • Whether the Colorado Department of Education has licensed or endorsed your student’s teacher for the grades and subjects taught.
  • Whether CDE has decided that your student’s teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
  • The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
  • Whether any teachers’ aides or similar paraeducators provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

Please contact Adams 12 Human Resources Office at 720-972-4068 or HR-Human-Resources@adams12.org.  if you would like to receive any of this information.

Pets on School Property -  In an effort to keep our school feeling safe for all students and families and in accordance with District Policy, only service animals and therapy dogs are permitted on school property. District Policy requires prior authorization from the principal to have a therapy dog on school property. We ask that all other pets remain off school grounds during school hours. We appreciate your cooperation with this request

Chaperones for Rockies Game - In May, we will be hosting our second annual Westview Scholar celebration by attending a Colorado Rockies game.  We want to make sure that everyone who would like to be a parent chaperone for the Rockies game has that opportunity.  Please complete this form and we will add your name to the list.  When we receive the 2024 Rockies schedule, we will then determine a final date for the game and will then communicate that information to you via email in January of 2024.  Thank you in advance for your support and willingness to assist our students by being a parent chaperone for the Rockies game.

Hug and Go Lane - The Hug and Go Lane is a great way to drop off and pick up students that are independent enough to walk to and from their classroom without support.  Some of our Hug and Go guidelines are:

  • Adults should stay in their car when using the Hug and Go lane.
  • Pull up as far as you can go before letting your student(s) out.
  • Students should exit their car and get on the sidewalk.
  • If students exit on the right side of the car, they should walk behind their car to get on the sidewalk.
  • Students should walk on the sidewalk to the Crosswalk entrance.
  • Students are asked to wait on the sidewalk until an adult puts up the stop sign and tells them it is okay to cross.
  • Adults should not be on their phones when driving through the Hug and Go lane.

Thank you for letting us be part of your student’s school experience.  We look forward to working with you and your students this year.

Dear Westview Families,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the final days of summer break.  It was great to see so many of you at Back to School last night.  The beginning of the school year is always such an exciting, busy time.  Below is important information that I want everyone to have before our first day.

First Day of School - Our first day of school is on Monday, August 14.  Students can arrive on campus at 7:40 and will enter the building at 7:45 a.m.  Classes begin at 7:50 a.m.  Students will be dismissed at 2:35 p.m.  We encourage students to be in the building no later than 7:45 a.m. so they are ready to learn when instruction starts.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up for Monday through Friday - Outdoor supervision will start at 7:40 a.m.  PLEASE do not drop off students prior to this time.  Students will line up at their grade level entry doors and then enter the building at 7:45 a.m.  Instruction will start right at 7:50 a.m.  Students who enter the building after 7:50 will be marked tardy.

Students will be dismissed out of their grade level entry doors after the 2:35 p.m. bell.  Families are encouraged to talk with their students about where they will meet them at dismissal to help reduce after school confusion.

  • Kindergarten Entry Doors - Outside of the Kindergarten Classrooms
  • 1st Grade Entry Door - Main Entry of the school.  Students will line up near the brick wall at the front of the school.
  • 2nd and 3rd Grade Entry Door - Front East side of the building.  Students will line up on the sidewalk near the door.
  • 4th and 5th Grade Entry Door - Front West side of the building near the Visitor Parking Lot.  Students will line up on the sidewalk between the building and the parking lot.

Breakfast - If students want to eat breakfast at school, they may enter the building through the cafeteria door starting at 7:30 a.m.  Parents should wait with their students outside the school until the breakfast doors open at 7:30 a.m.

New District Calendar - All Adams 12 schools will be implementing the new District calendar this year. Please go to the Westview website (https://westview.adams12.org/) to see the new calendar.  We will not have early release Wednesdays.  Students will be dismissed at 2:35 every day that school is in session.  Westview School Calendar 2023-2024

Chromebooks - All students that had a school issued device at home during the summer need to bring their fully charged Chromebook to school on the first day, August 14th.

New Westview Wildcats - I am proud to introduce our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Pamela Olson.  Mrs. Olson has previous experience as an Assistant Principal, Principal, and Speech Language Pathologist.  We also have other new faces at Westview and hope you have a chance to meet them throughout the first few weeks of school.  Check out our website to see all of our Westview staff members.

I am excited for the new school year to begin and look forward to working with all of our students and families.  Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  I can’t wait to see everyone on Monday!

Have a great weekend and don’t forget, at Westview, we are Always - Learning, Growing, and Achieving Together!
